FAQ
-
Where are you located?
I am located in North Carolina and provide telehealth/online services across the entire state. I am local to the Triangle area but see clients from all over!
-
How does online therapy work?
Rather than holding sessions in an office space face to face, we meet over a private (HIPAA-compliant) video platform. That means you can meet with me from the comfort of your own home, and not worry about calculating travel time into your schedule.
-
What can I expect in my first session?
First sessions look a little different than the rest of our sessions will. This is because it is considered an ‘intake’ session. Intake sessions provide a foundation for the therapeutic relationship, and often focus on gaining a strong understanding of your background as a new client, and what your hopes and goals are for therapy. All sessions moving forward after the intake are where we really can dig in and the therapeutic work begins.
-
What is the purpose of the consultation call?
I offer a free 20 minute consultation call for all potential clients. These calls are helpful to get a better sense of what you as the client are hoping to get out of therapy, what you are looking for in a therapist, for me to share about my approach, and determine whether we would be a good fit. These calls are also a great opportunity for you to ask any questions you may have about the process, my work, etc.
-
What does it mean to determine 'fit'?
One of the most important parts of therapy is what is called the therapeutic relationship between client and therapist, and often the quality of this relationship really comes down to ‘fit’.
Things that can impact whether a client and therapist are a good fit include alignment (or misalignment) of your therapy goals, therapist’s approach, and the level of comfort you feel with them.
-
How long will I be in therapy?
Every client is unique in their needs, meaning the length of time to address their concerns will vary. My goal is that each client leaves our relationship feeling empowered in their ability to navigate life’s difficulties. That being said, many clients choose to engage in therapy on an ongoing basis even after the initial presenting concern has been addressed.
-
Does my insurance cover therapy sessions?
If you are insured by any of the insurance carriers I am in-network with, it’s likely that your sessions may be partially or even fully covered. This varies by plan, however, so it is important to confirm your coverage benefits either by calling the member number on your insurance card, or checking your plan online.
-
What is a superbill?
A superbill is a receipt that provides a detailed outline of the services provided, which can then be submitted to your insurance carrier for reimbursement. This can be helpful for clients who need to pay session fees upfront due to their insurance, because it allows for the potential to be reimbursed for some of the costs.
-
Is a mental health diagnosis required to use insurance for therapy?
Yes, insurance carriers require a mental health diagnosis to process claims for therapy services and demonstrate services as a ‘medical necessity’. If you have concerns about this or do not want to receive a diagnosis, this can be discussed in our consultation call.
